PIPA
Paradise for dolphins and turtles, the village of Pipa is part of the district of Tibau do Sul, an indigenous name that means “between two waters” (the Guaraíras Lagoon on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other).
From “Orotapiry” – “the village of the white man” in Tupi to “Itacoatiara” – “the big yellow rock” and “the tip of the green cape” due to the panorama over the forest seen by the sailors at sea, the city was finally called Pipa (barrel) because the “rock of the kid” (which can be seen from the farthest point of the Praia do Amor (The Love Beach) that looks like a barrel of wine or rum. It seems that this stone caught the attention of adventurers and tourists from all over the world, since the time when pirates of all nationalities arrived at the coast in search of famous pau-Brasil.
But today Pipa is quite different; The surfers have rediscovered Pipa and thanks to them, Pipa began to open up to the world. Now Pipa welcomes surfers and tourists from all over the world and from all social classes who meet the Fishermen and local residents. A mixture of colors and energy is what makes Pipa so charming.
